Navigating the Gradeworks interface

A tour of the Gradeworks interface — sidebar navigation, global search, notifications, and how the major sections connect.

Gradeworks is organized around a persistent left sidebar that gives you one-click access to every major section. Once you learn the sidebar, you can get anywhere in two clicks or fewer.

The sidebar

The sidebar is always visible on desktop. It lists the core sections — Dashboard, Estimating, Scheduling, Dispatch, Timesheets, and Settings — each with an icon and label. The active section is highlighted. On mobile, the sidebar collapses behind a menu icon in the top-left corner.

The search bar at the top of the sidebar lets you find anything — bids, projects, customers, crew members, or settings pages. Start typing and results appear grouped by category. Click a result to jump directly to it. This is the fastest way to navigate when you know what you're looking for.

Pro tip
Press Cmd+K (Mac) or Ctrl+K (Windows) to open global search from anywhere in the app. You don't need to scroll to the top or click the search bar — the keyboard shortcut works on every page.

Notifications

The bell icon in the top bar shows unread notifications — dispatch updates, sign-off reminders, bid status changes, and system alerts. Click it to see the notification list. Each notification links to the relevant item so you can take action immediately.

Contextual navigation

Within each section, tabs and breadcrumbs help you navigate deeper. A project has tabs for Schedule, Materials, Time, and Cost. A bid has tabs for Line Items, Takeoff, Variables, and Proposals. Breadcrumbs at the top show where you are and let you jump back to parent views.
