Work week and holiday calendar
Configure which days are business days and define your company holiday calendar — these settings control how Gradeworks calculates durations and schedules work.
Gradeworks needs to know which days your company works. When you create a 5-day work block, it counts 5 business days — skipping weekends and holidays. Getting this right means your project timelines reflect reality and your end dates are accurate.
Setting your work week
Go to Settings > Company > Scheduling to configure your work week. Select which days are business days — most construction companies work Monday through Friday, but some include Saturday. The work week applies company-wide to all scheduling calculations.
Changing the work week recalculates all future scheduling. If you switch from 5-day to 6-day weeks, a "10 working days" block gets shorter in calendar time because it now includes Saturdays. Existing blocks retain their duration in working days — the calendar dates adjust.
Managing holidays
- Go to Settings > Company > Scheduling > Holidays
- Click Add Holiday
- Enter the holiday name and date
- For recurring holidays (New Year's Day, Independence Day, etc.), check the 'Repeats annually' option
- Save — the holiday is excluded from all scheduling calculations
Holidays work like weekends — they're skipped when counting working days. A work block that spans a holiday gets an extra calendar day without changing its duration in working days. The project timeline shows holidays as non-working days with a subtle background indicator.
Regional and project-specific considerations
The holiday calendar is company-wide. If you operate in multiple regions with different holiday schedules, add all holidays that any region observes. Individual projects can't override the company calendar, but you can use pinned blocks to lock critical dates regardless of the calendar configuration.
