Configuring scheduling parameters
Configure the scheduling parameters that drive Gradeworks calculations — truck derating, drive factor tiers, yard location, and work week settings.
Scheduling parameters are the numbers behind Gradeworks' automatic calculations. They determine how drive times are adjusted, how travel costs are tiered, and which days count as working days. Getting these right means your bids and schedules reflect reality.
Truck derating
Truck derating increases standard drive time estimates to account for slower construction vehicle speeds. The setting is a percentage — 20% means a 45-minute car trip becomes a 54-minute truck trip. Set this in Settings > Company > Scheduling. Typical values range from 15% to 25% depending on your fleet and local road conditions.
The derating applies uniformly to all drive time calculations across the platform — bids, project travel estimates, and vendor proximity rankings. If your company operates different vehicle types with significantly different speeds, use the average.
Drive factor tiers
Drive factor tiers let you charge different rates based on job site distance. Each tier has a time range (in minutes of truck-adjusted drive time) and a cost multiplier. The system matches the calculated drive time against your tiers and applies the corresponding factor.
- Go to Settings > Company > Scheduling
- Scroll to Drive Factor Tiers
- Click Add Tier to create a new range
- Enter the minimum and maximum drive time (in minutes) and the cost factor (e.g., 1.0, 1.15, 1.5)
- Repeat for each tier — ensure ranges don't overlap and cover all expected drive times
- Save — the new tiers apply to all future bid calculations
Yard location
Your yard location is the origin point for all drive time calculations. Set it in Settings > Company > Scheduling by entering your yard's street address — Gradeworks verifies the address and pinpoints the location. If your company has multiple yards, set the primary one here. Bids and projects use this location by default, though individual projects can override it.
