The field app

Everything field workers and foremen need on their phone — today's assignment, clock-in, daily reports, and sign-off, all designed for use in work gloves.

The field app is the mobile interface for crews and foremen. It shows today's assignment, handles clock-in/out, accepts daily reports, and provides foreman sign-off. The interface is deliberately simple — large tap targets, minimal typing, and workflows designed for workers wearing gloves on a dusty job site.

Today's assignment

When a worker opens the field app, they see their dispatch assignment for the day: project name, block name, site address (with a tap-to-navigate link to maps), crew members, equipment, and any dispatcher notes. If they have multiple blocks dispatched, they see them in sequence. No digging through menus — the information they need is on the home screen.

Clock-in/out

A large Clock In button is always visible when the worker has a dispatched assignment. One tap records the time and your location. At the end of the day, the same button changes to Clock Out. The simplicity is intentional — the most common action requires the fewest taps.

Daily reports

Foremen submit daily reports through the field app. A report includes: work completed (which blocks, percentage done), material used (quantities consumed from project materials), issues encountered (equipment problems, weather delays, access issues), and photos. Reports take 5-10 minutes at the end of the day and feed into project tracking.

  1. Tap Daily Report on the home screen
  2. Select the blocks worked on today
  3. Update completion percentage for each block
  4. Log material usage from the prepopulated list
  5. Add any issues or notes
  6. Attach photos (optional but recommended — site progress, problems, delivery tickets)
  7. Submit — the report is visible on the dispatch board and in the project history
Pro tip
Take at least one progress photo per day per active block. Photos are timestamped and GPS-tagged automatically. They're invaluable for dispute resolution, customer progress updates, and the kind of 'before and after' documentation that wins future bids.

Offline mode

The field app works offline for core functions: clock-in, clock-out, daily reports, and photos. Data syncs when connectivity is restored. Rural job sites with poor signal don't mean lost time entries. The app queues everything locally and uploads when it can. A sync indicator shows the worker whether they're online or working offline.
